Gauverband Announcement

I would like to announce the appointment of Erik Schwarz, of BV Alpengrün, Rochester, to the position of Director of the Gauverband Nordamerika. I have known Erik for 30 years and trust he will do an excellent job in his newly appointed position.

There was standing room only for the Oktoberfest presentation at the Delegates Meeting. Participants learned about the parade, the route, what to wear and what not to wear, and what to expect in the tents and on Monday at the Oide Wiesn. Those attending found it helpful to learn. Since then, the presentation is available on the Gauverband website.

On the weekend of August 1-3, SV Edelweiß of Chicago will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary!  SV Edelweiß is the first Gebirgstrachtenverein in North America to reach this milestone and I believe every other Verein of the Gauverband Nordamerika should make an attempt to have some representatives in attendance. Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of this historic event.

Paul Ulrich Sr., a long-time Gaubeisitzer, passed away June 12, 2014.  Paul was elected as a Director, or Gaubeisitzer, at the Delegates Meeting held in Milwaukee in 1972, served in that capacity until his death, and had become the face of the Beisitzer, and the Gauverband, at nearly every meeting since.  Paul, with his quick-witted style, took roll call, ran the Administrative Sessions, led numerous Schafkopf Workshops, and then gave entertaining reports of all of the above.  More recently, during a lull in our elections, he entertained many of us with a humor-laden dissertation about the

The Meetings Committee has revised the manuals that describe in great detail the requirements to host a Gaufest, a Delegates Meeting, and an Executive Board Meeting. The manuals can be found under "Publications/How To Manuals." Previous versions should not be used.

Michael Olk and Richard Michels presented a workshop at the 2014 Delegates Meeting to discuss what to expect at the Münchner Oktoberfest Trachtenzug.  Gauverband Nordamerika will be participating with about 400 Trachtler and Trachtlerinnen in honor of the 100 years of Trachtenvereine in Nordamerika.
