September 22, 2014 - Gauverband Nordamerika Vereine performed in the Festzelt Tradition in the Oide Wiesn at the Munich Oktoberfest. Much preparation by 2.Gauvorplattler Rudi Leschke, Gaumusikwart Rick Michels and Gaupressewartin Karin Dean, went into getting ready for this day. Because of the 100th Anniversary of Edelweiss, Chicago and the 50th Anniversary of Gauverband Nordamerika we were invited by the Festing München e.V. to participate in the Trachten- und Schützenzug and in the Festzelt Tradition which was first created on the occasion of the 200th Anniversary of the Oktoberfest.
The Trachten- und Schützenzug took place on Sunday of opening weekend. On Monday Vereine of Gauverband Nordamerika were invited to perform Ehrentänze in the Festzelt Tradition. All dancers wore Halbtracht or Festtracht and the visual effect was impressive. S.G. Edelweiss, St. Paul danced the Seehamer and Wendlstoana with five couples, Vorplattler Matt LaCourse. United German Hungarians danced Überall sind Lad'n zu and Schnacklwalzer with five couples, Vorplattler Alex Blank. G.T.E.V. Schlierachtaler Stamm danced the Partnachtaler and Deandl mit'n rot'n Miada, Vorplattler Erik Hugel. G.T.E.V. Edelweiss Detroit danced the Vogelwalder and Kreuzpolka, Vorplattler Eric Walker. B.H.T.V. Golden Gate danced the Wahlfahrtengeh'n and Ruhpoldinger, Vorplattler Fritz Scheffler. H.S.V. Bavaria danced the Obersdorfer and Chiemgauer, Vorplattler Andrew Horn.
After each of the six Vereine had performed their first Ehrentanz Siasswasser Tanzlmusi from Detroit played a beautiful program of Volksmusik. During the afternoon the stage band invited Gauverband Nordamerika to march into the tent behind them. Very impressive entrance! After Siasswasser Tanzlmusi came the highpoint of the day, Gauverband Nordamerika's Gauplattler as Massenplattler. Schuhplattler filled every aisle and available space in the tent. This thrilling experience along with the adventure of marching in the Trachten- und Schützenzug will never be forgotten.
