Many thanks to the members of SG Edelweiss, St.Paul, Minnesota, for doing a great job hosting the 25th Delegates Meeting. Here are the big decisions that came out of the meeting. The Gauzeitung will have more detailed stories and lots of photos of the weekend.
Welcome to our newest Gauverband member Verein, AVC Edelweiss Dancers of Richmond (near Vancouver), British Columbia, Canada! Their representatives, Brenda and Tony, wore their stunning Tyrolean Tracht.
Our host for Gaufest 2019 will be Alt Washingtonia, Washington, D.C.! Sounds like it will be a wonderful event, to be held July 4-7, 2019. The 4. Gaufest was held in D.C. in 1973.
Our host for the 2018 Delegates meeting willl be Heimat Taenzer of Omaha, Nebraska. The delegates also approved moving the date of the meeting ahead a week to accommodate the Heimat Taenzer's request to hold the meetings on April 28-29, 2018.
We have four new Ausschuss members! Karin Schwab (Almrausch Philadelphia) is the new Gauvortaenzerin; Diane Meck (Auerhahn Schuhplattler, Oley, PA) is the new Gaujugendvertreterin; and Fritz Sheffler (Golden Gate, San Francisco) and Paul Ulrich Jr. (Bayern Verein Newark, NJ) are newest members of the Gaubeisitzer. Welcome to the Ausschuss!
Our outgoing officers are Cindy Hartz, Heidi von Recklinghausen, Carolyn Marquardt, and Erik Schwarz. Thank you for your years of service as well as your many contributions!
All the other officers were reelected or reappointed.
The first-ever Paul Ulrich Sr. Scholarship winners were announced. Sixteen young people applied, only one was to be awarded. However, two of the applicants' essays so touched the hearts of the committee that it was decided that two scholarships would be awarded this first year. Congratulations to Ian Hargreaves (Alt Washingtonia) and Josh Meck (Auerhahn Oley, PA)
Gau-NA will be hosting the Bayerischer Loewe for the first time, and it will be held in 2018 in Bayern! The Loewe will be held at the same venue as the Allgaeuer Gauverband's Gaufest in Haldenwang (May 31-June 3), with the Loewe on June 2. The host of the Gaufest is Trachtenverein D'Wageggler of Boerwang, who are and will be doing much to help us. More details are in Rudy's proposal among the committee reports and will also be in the Gauzeitung. How exciting!
Gaumusikwart Rick Michels wrote the "50ger Festmarsch" in honor of the Gauverband's 50th anniversary. The Siasswasser Tanzlmusi played it Saturday night and it is wonderful. Here's the link to a video: 50ger Festmarsch Video
